FAQ – Kintsugi Repair Kit (US)

About the kit

What is in the Kintsugi Repair Kit?

An illustrated English manual (with a video guide), two-part epoxy adhesive, original-blend epoxy putty, synthetic resin (10 ml), brass gold powder, a fine brush and a flat brush, a mixing palette, waterproof sandpaper (#400) and a Kintsugi Lounge pouch. Everything you need for your first repair is in the pouch.

Is it real urushi lacquer?

No. Traditional kintsugi uses urushi lacquer, which takes weeks to cure and can cause a skin rash. This kit uses epoxy and a synthetic resin instead, so there is no risk of urushi rash and the repair sets in about a day. It is the same "easy kintsugi" method we teach in our beginner workshops in Japan.

Is the repaired piece food safe?

The kit is made for decorative pieces and items washed gently by hand. The repaired area is not intended for direct contact with food or drink, and repaired items are not microwave or dishwasher safe. Please do not pour hot liquids over the repaired area.

What can I repair?

Ceramic and porcelain cups, bowls, plates and vases with cracks, breaks or chips. The putty rebuilds missing chips, and the gold line covers the seam. One kit is enough for several small repairs.

Is the manual in English?

Yes. The printed manual is in English with illustrations for every step, and a video guide is linked from the manual.

Safety

The kit contains epoxy resin, an amine hardener and a petroleum solvent. Use in a well-ventilated room, wear gloves, keep away from heat and open flames, and keep out of reach of children. For adult use only. If the resin or hardener gets on your skin, wash with soap and water; if it gets in your eyes, rinse with water for several minutes and seek medical advice.

WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Bisphenol A (BPA), which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
