Kintsugi Lounge is a small kintsugi studio in Minamimorimachi, Osaka. We help people repair broken or chipped ceramics with gold lines, instead of throwing them away. We run beginner workshops, a monthly urushi (natural lacquer) class, and sell easy kintsugi kits.

What is kintsugi?

Kintsugi is a Japanese technique for repairing broken pottery. The cracks are filled and finished with gold (or silver) powder, so the repair becomes part of the object's story rather than something to hide.

We offer two approaches:

• Easy kintsugi — uses epoxy putty and synthetic resin instead of urushi lacquer. A repair can be finished in a day, and there is no risk of lacquer rash.
• Urushi kintsugi — the traditional method with natural urushi lacquer. It takes several weeks of steps. Please note that natural lacquer can cause skin irritation for some people.

Workshops and classes (in Japanese)

Our workshops and classes are conducted in Japanese. English interpretation is not available, but anyone who is comfortable communicating in Japanese is welcome, regardless of nationality.

• Easy Kintsugi Workshop — about 2 hours, ¥5,500 (tax incl.). Please bring a small piece of your own ceramics to repair, and a box to carry it home.
• Urushi Kintsugi Class — twice a month on Fridays or Sundays in Osaka, ¥9,900 per month. Please contact us before booking to arrange your first day.

Kintsugi kits (shipping within Japan only)

Our kintsugi kits include everything you need to start, with an illustrated manual in Japanese. We currently ship only to addresses in Japan. If you are staying in Japan, you can have a kit delivered to your hotel (please check that your hotel can receive parcels for you).
